 World Church

(Previously called 'Overseas Missions')

Mission to the World Church is supported through prayer, giving, fund raising events and learning more of Christian and Methodist initiatives throughout the World.

Christian Aid

        'We believe in life before death'

Christian Aid is a registered charity and works in relief and development in around 60 countries worldwide, wherever the need is greatest. It tackles the root causes of  poverty and remains committed to local communities on a long term basis.

The church actively supports the work of Christian Aid by Lenten Lunches, house-to-house collections in Christian Aid week and other special events.

A Traidcraft stall is held every month, after a morning service. See the weekly notices for details

Methodist Women in Britain  (MWiB)

There is an active group who arrange their own programmes raising money for World Church funds. They are involved and support Circuit & District events.

Magnet Magazine:

In the light of changes within the Connexional Team, it has been possible to consider what is in the best interests of 'Magnet' which will work independently of the structure of MWiB.

This new direction enables us to reach Christians of all denominations, increase our readership, and allow the magazine to continue and flourish. Magnet will be shared more widely but its strengths will continue.

It will keep:

      its colourful meditation pages;

      items supporting our spiritual life, including worship material and ideas for groups;

      its mission, action and justice focus;

      its collaborative way of working with volunteers recruited from different Christian backgrounds;

      its Methodist social holiness ethos.

The Magnet management group is investigating various options for partnership and is also in conversation with those who are shaping the new Connexional Team.

Methodist Relief and Development Fund  (MRDF)

The church supports this through the stewardship Mission & Service fund, plus other special events.

Leprosy Mission  (TLM)

There is an active membership, giving regularly to this charity.

Caring for the Earth

See the Methodist Church's website for its Environmental Policy.

This report to the Methodist Conference put forward an Environmental Policy to assist the Methodist Church in translating its commitment to caring for the earth into its life at national and local level.

It identifies environmental policy objectives under six headings: awareness and commitment; energy and water; waste; materials and resources; the natural and built environment; travel. These objectives are aimed in the first instance at churches and their congregations and ultimately at individual lifestyles.

Whenever possible the Methodist Church works with other churches and organisations. Three Methodist churches took part in a pilot project aimed at launching the Eco-Congregation Project in September 2000. This was a joint initiative of Going for Green and the Environmental Issues Network of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland of which the Methodist Church is part.

The report indicates that the environmental policy will be under rolling review in the light of experience gained.

The Methodist Church is the first church in Britain to attempt to introduce an environment policy.
